The Fourth Annual Rock Can Roll Independent Music and Media Festival and Conference takes place in downtown St. John’s October 23-26, 2008. Brought to you by Rock Can Roll Media Collective and the Independent Artists Cooperative.

THE RAWK

The Rock Can Roll Festival highlights Newfoundland’s independent rock music scene with jam-packed shows programmed for The Rock House, the Ship, The Rose and Thistle, Distortion and Turner’s Tavern. At the Rock Can Roll Festival we focus on our own and spend a weekend celebrating the music and accomplishments of the independent artists and bands who live and work here in Newfoundland, (with a few special guests from away). See our amazing Rock Show and Conference Schedule.

Atlantic Basin Project Continues

The Atlantic Basin Project - an e-publication featuring the work of contemporary artists living in coastal communities throughout the Atlantic Basin - was released at the Resource Centre for the Arts Gallery in St. John's with special presenatations from the website. The release was also celebrated simultaneously in the environments of Second Life with a performance by the Second Front. (image from the Atlantic Basin Project: Volume One by Jeremy Webb. )

We are proud to be presenting work from artists working many world locations, from Newfoundland to Thialand, Costa Rica to England. The Atlantic Basin Project features a wide array of work - original video and audio creations, extraordinary photography, cross-country and international collaborations, essays on the impact of tourism on culture and examinations of the effect of climate change on our environment.

hybrid reality performances

RCR have been presenting live performances simultaneously in the virtual environments of Second Life and in live venues in St. John's. Anthony Brenton released his new chapbook Daybreak Saint City, (published by Trainwreck Press ), this year live at the Reject Room. Anthony was joined by Liz Solo to read from new work at both the real world venue the Reject Room and in the Second Life version of the same venue. We have been building virtual representations of real world venues and presenting our performances simultaneously in both spaces.

Liz Solo's CD release of "alien" was also presented live in Second Life as well as at the Ship in St John's featuring special guest musicians Mike Kean, Alex Pierson, Marcel Levandier, Sam Hall, the Pathological Lovers , Steve Abbott.

The RCR/IAMCOOP Second Space Project explores new tools artists are using to interact, create and present work in online environments. We have an ever evolving installation and building space on Odyssey Island in Second Life. To be a part of the project or to find out more please Contact us or visit us on Odyssey Island.
